What Is the Citizenship Application Fee?

To apply for U.S. citizenship (via naturalization), applicants must pay a filing fee that covers processing of the naturalization application and biometric services. Starting April 1, 2024, USCIS adjusted these fees:

  • $710 when filing online for Form N-400
  • $760 when filing by paper (mail)
  • reduced fee option is available: $380 for eligible applicants whose household income is between 150% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
  • Full fee waiver (i.e. $0) may be possible for applicants who meet certain income hardship or benefit criteria

Note: The option to pay a reduced fee or get a waiver typically must be requested via paper filing (not via the online method) in many cases.

These fees are generally non-refundable — even if your application is denied or withdrawn.
