1. Legal Requirements & Key Steps

  1. Three-Month NoticeCouples must submit a Notice of Intention to marry at least 3 months before their wedding date to the local civil registration service. 
  2. Marriage Registration FormAfter the notification, the registrar issues a Marriage Registration Form. You need this form for the ceremony, and the solemniser will sign it to register the marriage. It is valid for 6 months from issuance. 
  3. Age & Marital Status ConditionsBoth parties must be 18 years or older, and not currently married. If previously married or in a civil partnership, provide the relevant divorce or death certificate. 
  4. Foreign Nationals & Mixed Nationality CouplesOne or both being non-EU nationals may trigger additional steps, such as attending an interview with the registrar to confirm the marriage intention. 
  5. Officiant & WitnessesA registered solemniser must officiate the marriage. At least two adult witnesses (18+) must be present at the ceremony. The registrar (civil or religious/secular authority) will register the marriage officially.
